Full Stack Engineer
Build the software infrastructure behind Cherith's research projects — from an open-source Bible translation platform to AI-powered tools for discipleship and scripture engagement. You'll work across the stack in a small team where every line of code ships to real users in the field.
About the Role
Cherith Labs is building technology at the intersection of AI, linguistics, and scripture — tools that serve translators, field workers, and the global church. As a Full Stack Engineer, you'll build and maintain the web applications, APIs, and data layers that power these projects. The work spans an open-source digital Bible translation with embedded historical languages, computational linguistics research tools, and an AI tutoring platform for Christian faith formation. These aren't prototypes — they're production systems serving users in resource-constrained environments where reliability and clarity matter more than polish.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain web applications and APIs across Labs research projects
- Develop the data architecture and versioning systems for an open-source Bible translation platform
- Build frontend interfaces for scripture tools, research dashboards, and AI-powered learning experiences
- Integrate with NLP and machine learning services, handling model inputs/outputs in application layers
- Own features end-to-end — from database schema through deployment and monitoring
- Collaborate with researchers, linguists, and field partners to translate domain requirements into working software
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional full stack engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and modern web frameworks (React, Next.js, or similar)
- Experience designing and building RESTful or GraphQL APIs
- Comfort working with databases — relational and document stores — and thinking about data modeling
- Ability to work independently in a small team with minimal direction
- Alignment with Cherith's mission and doctrinal foundation
Nice to Have
- Experience building applications that consume ML model outputs or integrate with AI services
- Familiarity with data pipelines, ETL processes, or structured text processing
- Background working with multilingual content or internationalization
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Vercel)
